After a long life of labor I found myself confronted with unemployment. Because I have always been busy I could not imagine doing nothing at all. I looked at life from a labor point of view and next to work there was not much else. I had my job, the wife and kids, the house, the usual worries and that was about it. Losing my job was the worst thing that could happen and you guessed it: According to Murphy it was inevitable. Losing ones job will happen just because it can.
Well some say don't let it get you down. This of course is easier said then done. I was frantically looking for opportunities and to new employment but who will hire a relative old man. No one in his right mind I would think. While politicians tell you time and again that it is your experience employers are after, you know in your heart they are after the young ones (with lots of experience, years on end in a similar job and willing to work for a young persons salary). I know this because not too long ago I myself called the shots and as almost all others I went for cheap and muscle.
On one of my strolls through town, killing time, I met this really old guy. He told me he had been an artist all his life and barely made a living off it. He survived though and I asked him to show me some of his work. He invited me over to his modest workshop and all of a sudden I found myself in heaven. For the first time in my life I really got to appreciate the things people can make with their own bare hands. I stopped dead in my tracks and told "the-old-guy" I would help him sell his art. I proceeded to register a domain name (www.artgallery-amsterdam.com) and constructed a website that I published. Do take a look and get enthousiatic like me about the beautiful things shown on the site. Follow the link to the art gallery and feast your eyes on the art shown. All pieces on the site are for sale against reasonable prices. As we will soon be expanding the site, please do return to this blog to find out what is new, or check the site (www.artgallery-amsterdam.com).
